Hi, I tried taking one of the 90.1-2016 prototypes (https://www.energycodes.gov/developme...) for Small Office, updating it to EnergyPlus 9.2 using the IDFVersionUpdater, and importing the updated .idf in OpenStudio 2.9.1, and I get this error:

File is not valid to draft strictness. Check that IDF is of correct version and that all fields are valid against Energy+.idd.

I've pasted the error details below but before I go too far down a rabbit hole, is there an easier way to get the 90.1-2016 prototypes into OpenStudio format? Thanks!

OpenStudioApp error details:

I believe OpenStudio software doesn't support importing IDF and save them as an OSM file. There might be limited function in OpenStudio to convert some simple EnergyPlus objects to OSM but many other E+ objects cannot be imported.

You cannot translate an .idf with HVAC system and especially EMS code into OpenStudio model format (.osm). Only some simple constructions, materials, geometry, and loads can be imported.

If you want the 90.1-2016 DOE prototype in OpenStudio format, you will need to wait until 90.1-2016 is supported in openstudio-standards.

[EDIT: There are no funded efforts to add 90.1-2016 to openstudio-standards this year].

[EDIT TO THE EDIT: 90.1-2016 will be added to openstudio-standards in FY2021]

So 90.1-2016 will not be supported in 2020? Can we do a GoFund me or something?

Let Amir Roth at DOE BTO know that this is something you want supported. If enough practitioners request it, DOE can include it in the annual work plans for the labs.

Any update on this effort?

The OpenStudio Standards developer team have plan to add 90.1-2016 support to the 2021 April release of the OpenStudio Standards Gem. If users have any questions, about the EnergyPlus version of the prototypes, https://www.energycodes.gov/developme..., there is a HelpDesk https://www.energycodes.gov/HelpDesk. Thanks - Jian
