Where is the information regarding what type of performance curves are used when we model HVAC using HVAC templates in Energy plus?

Going from memory.... The type of curve depends on the E+ object that's in use. You may know that when you run a template, the IDF file gets expanded into a complete, non-template IDF. Find out which objects are created in that new IDF and use curves of interest to you. Next, search the Input Output Reference which is included in the E+ documentation for the object of interest and it will tell you which curve type are acceptable

As a note, the "complete, non-template IDF" that Jim refers to ends in [file_name].expidf (short for "expanded IDF") instead of [file_name].idf (file that defines HVAC templates). This expanded IDF is created by the pre-processor tool named ExpandObjects, which can be used stand-alone before running a simulation or after you run a simulation with EP-Luanch by default.
