Mimicking Uncontrolled Heating (aka Failed Control Valve)
Does anyone have a good trick to mimic failed heating valves on a HW baseboard loop? I was hoping for something that doesn't involve cumbersome adjustments to the thermostat schedule.
@craigers is the intent to apply this to plat loop, air loop, zone terminal, or zone equipment? Also is the reason that you see adjusting the thermostat as cumbersome, because you need to do it to many zones at once? Depending on use case multi-select in grid view in the OS app or a measure could address this.
@craigers did you ever find a way to simulate this? I have the same question
I ended using exposed pipes within the affected zones (there were a handful of specific ones I was interested in) I placed those pipes on a branch with a controlled zone downstream that determined when the branch was active. I had to play around a little with the "length" of the pipe to get the behavior to match observation, but it seemed to work OK. If it were a bigger, more complex building I would have gone with some sort of thermostat schedule, but I still don't love that approach because in the real world it over or under heats based on outdoor conditions, hard to mimic.
