Hello everyone, I am working on exporting a gbXML file from Revit and opening the same in Openstudio v2.7. For exporting the gbXML from Revit, Using energy settings' andUsing Rooms/Spaces'. I am still missing the curtain wall openings, few walls while I try to export. How do I fix it? For importing the gbXML to OS v2.7, I used the Ladybug tool in the editor. However had the following warnings,
Surface has two adjacent spaces which are the same space 'aim7644', will not be translated. Surface has two adjacent spaces which are the same space 'aim7810', will not be translated. I am unable to view the model and Open Studio screen crashes.

How can I fix this? Am I missing something? Is it not possible to use gbXML file in OS v2.7?Are there steps to follow before converting the Revit file to gbXML. and before importing to OS? Thanks for your help. Ranjani

@Ranjani you should be able to import gbXML's from Revit to OpenStudio 2.7.0, however there is a lot of variety in the structure of different gbXML files, and they do not always behave well. Just to confirm what is happening. Is OpenStudio crashing when you try to import the gbXML, or is it only crashing when you try to go to the geometry tab with the 3d Viewer? If you want to send the gbXML to OpenStudio@nrel.gov we can take a look at it. If you can the raw gbXML from Revit, and also your copy modified with Spider.

@David Goldwasser Thank you for your reply. The OS model crashes when I try to go to the geometry tab with the 3d Viewer. Unfortunately, I can't share the model. Can I email you the snapshots from the model to OpenStudio@nrel.gov? I would like to understand how to import gbxml to OS 2.7. The main issue is the errors/warnings due to adjacent spaces How can I resolve that? Are there videos to refer to? Appreciate the help.

Here is the link to the Spider gbXML Viewer David mentioned. The Spider team is working on ways to fix common errors in gbXML exported from Revit, so they might be able to help add features to address your issues.

The warnings about surfaces not translated may or may not be a real problem. It's possible they are interior surfaces that can just be ignored in the energy simulation. Do you get a gbXML out of the process? Try uploading to Spider to see if you can see any issues.

@macumber I did look at the spider tool and trying to make edits to the surfaces. They are interior surfaces mostly elevator shaft and staircases. The other issue is when viewing the gbXML file via spider, the window openings are not getting translated from Revit. Is there a way to fix it? I also tried running a simulation, but it was terminated and the error was - * Severe * GetSurfaceData: Zero or negative surface area[0.00000], Surface=AIM148581

Any suggestions?

@macumber Also while exporting gbXML from revit, what are the preferred settings? Should I create an energy model and export the file or export using Rooms/Spaces.
