District heat for floors and water heating in OpenStudio (HVAC Tab)
Hello everyone, I am working right now on a residential building that uses district heating to heat both floors and potable water. And since I am new in using OpenStudio, I encountered some difficulties in proceeding to the stage of the HVAC, I actually have done a little but I am not sure if I did the right thing and if it is enough, so if anyone could help me figure out how to make it possible to configure this system, I would be really glad :)
Here below is what I have done so far (for heating potable water);
And this is concerning floor heating (I am not sure if I did the right thing using "HW Htg Coil")
If you have any remarks or suggestions, please don't hesitate :)
use the zone hvac radiant or baseboard objects on your hot water loop. Right now you just have a air system providing heating, and it is one supply temperature for the whole air loop so some of your zones will get underheated/overheated.
So if I understood well I should add Zone HVAC Baseboard Rad Conv Water in the thermal zone tab as shown in this screenshot and then I have this in the HVAC tab for the Plant loop2 ?
Is it now correct ? Thanks for your help :)
Do you think that I should remove the coil (HW Htg Coil) from Plant loop 2 and Air loop HVAC 1 ? Because now that I understand better the functioning of these loops and that I added the baseboard in each thermal zone, I do not see anymore the utility of the coil there. Am I right ?
Are you trying to model radiant FLOORS or radiant BASEBOARDS? Those are two different things. Radiant FLOORS will require a radiant floor construction, and use a Zone HVAC Low Temperature Radiant object. See post here: https://unmethours.com/question/3514/...
Also, for your district DHW system: Rather than using a district heating object, I prefer to use a regular Water Heater object and just change the fuel type to District Heating. Otherwise your DHW usage will show up as heating end use rather than water system end use.
@egillmor You are right, this is what I needed, but after following the steps from the link you sent I got severe errors, that I didn't get. Do you have an idea about it ? (I posted them as a comment to the answer from the link you sent)
Be sure that your radiant construction is built of appropriate materials (I use insulation, concrete, and a floor covering like wood). Make a construction set that is specifically assigned only to your radiant heated spaces. Be sure that you have your radiant construction assigned to all floor types -- interior, exterior, and ground contact.
