I intend to develop daily hot water use data in 6 minute intervals for a year, for a single household. I want to segregate the end uses by shower, dishwasher and clothes washer. I also seek to develop this data for different residential homes based on how many people are living there, how many rooms are there in the house etc.

I am new to EnergyPlus, and have basic idea of operations. But I am having trouble deciding the starting point for this synthesis; what files should i use for developing these. I would greatly appreciate some guidance on setting this up in energyplus.

Thanks, Yash

There's a tool called the Building America Domestic Hot Water Event Schedule Generator (BA DHWESG) that can be used to generate a full year of discrete hot water events. You can set the interval you'd like your data at and each draw has an end use associated with it. You can find the DHWESG here: https://www.energy.gov/eere/buildings..., and if you're interested in the background on how the tool works there's a paper on it here: https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy10osti/47... use the results from the DHWESG in EnergyPlus you can add Schedule:File and WaterUse:Equipment objects to set the hot water draw.
