[E+] Difference between various ExternalInterface variables: in usage & fuctionality

There are three primary variables in the object ExternalInterface: Actuator, Schedule and Variable. Though I can understand the abstract meaning of these terms, I am not able to grasp the comparitative analysis amongst these variables.

Can someone please elucidate, in detail, with an example of what the object's variables imply?
