Hello everyone. I am new to design builder and energyplus. I have a design builder model that works fine running in Design Builder. After I export the file to as an idf file and running on energyplus, the simulation can't complete because of errors showing up in the energyplus simulation. Is there a problem associated with the exporting of the file? Or is it because Design Builder uses an older version of Energyplus.

I guess for matlab cosimulation purposes, and idf file is required.

There should be a message about a Fatal error in the .err file. If you post the text of the error message we may be able to help.

Hello Tom,

Thanks for your reply. The original model was made with Design Builder. In Design Builder I enabled the export 'simulation' option to generate an idf file. When I tried updating the idf file to a more recent version of Energyplus, an error file was created by the EP launcher containing the following below. Below is only a portion of the error file. It seems like idf file is missing several objects. I had the same problem when I activate the simulation without converting the idf file into a newer version. I would very much appreciate any help I can get. Please see next post.

The issue might be because of different versions. Please check the version of IDF file exported by DesignBuilder. If you are running the exported IDF with EPLaunch then make sure that version listed in your file matches with your standalone EnergyPlus installation.

You can open you exported IDF file in Notepad and check the object "Version" and then check the version of E+ installed. If the versions are different then you could try using IDFVersionUpdater located in EnergyPlusV8-6-0\PreProcess\IDFVersionUpdater.
