Hello , I used euclid extension on the sketchup to draw the thermal zones of a building, the surfaces and the HVAC conditions. I exported the idf file for energyplus and ran it in order to get results and finally calculate the consumption of the building. In the idf editor it doesn't give me the option to choose output variables so I can't take the desired results. Does anyone know how to add them manually ?

Hello,

Is it possible to manually add custom output variables in EnergyPlus?

I'm working on EnergyPlus coupled with an optimization program (GenOpt) and I would like to create a custom output variable as a function of existing output variables. Thus I could use directly this custom variable in the cost function of the optimization algorithm.

Thanks in advance.

@mzubiald this is a new question, which should be a separate post. I would search on Unmet Hours first, because there are likely some posts on using Energy Management System (EMS) objects of EnergyPlus for customizing output variables.

After you run a simulation, there should be a X.rdd file, where "X" is the same as the name you saved for X.idf. In the IDF Editor, you should be able to add a new column for the Output:Variable object, and then use the drop-down list to select the appropriate variable you want to include in the X.csv output file (see below).

Where can I see the result of the variable I have chosen?

@Esperanza you should see a column for your chosen variable(s) in the X.csv file, where "X" is the same as the name you saved for X.idf. At the top of my screen shot above, that would be "1ZoneEvapCooler". That csv file will be in the same folder where the idf file is saved.

@aaron I am using the IDF editor and then I add a new object and I select Output:meter/Electricity building. I run the simulation again, but the result of this variable is not appearing in the CVS files. Actually, in the EP-Launch the box meters is gray (seems is not active).
