Openstudio 2.1 on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04 based distros) no GUI?

I just installed Openstudio 2.1 on a 64bit Linux Mint 18.1 machine (based in Ubuntu 16.04) from the official .deb build, but after installing I see no GUI for OpenStudio nor PAT.

I knew and had experienced dependencies errors with previous OpenStudio versions on this same distro and somebody wrote here that wouldn't be a problem for OS 2.1.

Installation went smooth, but unfortunately I'm only able to get openstudio as a command line to execute files but not to edit them or even work with the new PAT.

Am I missing something in my installation?

I had the same problem recently on mac where the PAT wasn't included in the build. I guess it may be possible that the build posted on github was incorrectly configured. That being said, there's a new menu at installation (on mac at least) that asks you which components you want to install. Make sure you have checked all appropriate ones, and not just the command line tools.

Thanks for the comment Julien. Unfortunately when you execute de .deb installer, no extra options arise. A complete check for dependencies is done and then a direct install. Maybe I'm missing something "post-install"...?

PAT is not currently included in the Ubuntu distribution, that is a known issue. It is technically possible to include it, but would require some additional work. OpenStudioApp should be in the package, if it is not then there may be a mismatch between the component based installer code and the Debian packaging commands.

Thank you for your answer. Is there any guide/document to install OpenStudioApp and PAT on Linux? I would appreciate that to try myself.

Thanks again in advance.

I see this link only with instructions to build OpenStudio for Linux but it seams quite general:

https://github.com/NREL/OpenStudio/wi...

is there any extra info I'm missing? Thanks!

It appears that the App is not making its way into the debian packages. Here is an unofficial tar.gz binary package for 2.1.0. Can you see if this works for you? Note that this package should have the App but not PAT. We do not have a sense of how many users want to use the OpenStudio graphical applications on Linux, if you are a Linux user who is missing the graphical applications please let us know (this thread is a good place).

Thanks a lot Dan! I can confirm that the OpenstudioApp is working fine under Linux Mint 18.1 (Ubuntu 16.04 based).

In my case I tend to use Windows the less possible. I use it for Sketchup modeling but then I move to Linux. It would be great to have a complete Openstudio Linux build as it used to be, with OpenStudioApp + PAT, or at least a short reference to build it from a repo. So mine is a YES! on the request.

PS: Are there problems for PAT on Linux?

No technical barriers just additional time and resources to support pat on an another platform.
