I was working in sketchup with the open studio plugin on a model of a building that was almost ready to be exported to idf, just needed to add some small things as obstructions and assigning thermal zones.. anyways, the model had projected windows, intersected and matched surfaces and then I created a shading surface group. After double-clicking on it in order to draw an obstruction, everything disappeared. My model was completely gone. Of course, without saving I opened my last saved file and that one was somehow corrupted. Then I went one step behind, again corrupted. Then I opened an open studio file that was finished and exported and was working perfectly fine and it was also corrupted.

When I enter the inspector, surfaces are there, in sense that some 170 surfaces are listed, but nothing is visible. I tried to unhide all, didn't work. Restarted my pc, didn't work. Opened many different files, nothing works. I am very worried now since I have a deadline for my project and this (whatever it is I hope it's an easy-fix) messed up all my files.

If the inspector shows the surfaces, then they should be there, for some reason not displaying for you. Not sure how file you didn't save got corrupted. Did you upgrade versions of SketchUp and or OpenStudio during this process? If you send an older and newer version of our OSM file to OpenStudio@nrel.gov I can take a look at it.

Your initial description of double clicking on a surface group and having everything else disappear sounds like expected behavior when entering a surface group in SketchUp. You can enable/disable this behavior with "hide rest of model" button.

It is not the "hide rest of model" button. However it was on when the situation happened, but disabling it didn't help after all. I also have troubles understanding how my other files got corrupted. In the meantime I started working all over again and open studio seems to be working fine. I will send you the files now, thank you for the quick reply.

Hi,

This problem can appear when some UNDO/DELETE/CTRL Z are made in the model.

Also, did you check if your model was saved in .osm and not in .skp ?

If your small thing obstruction was made with the shading group surface, a copy/pasted may create error. I know when you copy/pasted some things dot not appear when you re-open your .osm file in SketchUp. But, i don't know why.

I hope this was helpful,
