I am having some trouble getting my model to run. I decided to use just Ideal Air loads but the model gives an error that the Zone 1 (of 9), node 1 inlet node name needs to be specified. If I am not specifying equipment why would I need to specify controls? Thank you, Matt

OpenStudio uses the EnergyPlus object named HVACTemplate:Zone:IdealLoadsAirSystem, which expands into ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem to model ideal systems. Ultimately the ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem does connect to the zone via nodes, however this is managed by OpenStudio for you. All that you normally need to do is check the box to enable ideal air loads. Are you enabling ideal air loads using the interface in the screenshot? Can you provide the full error message, or perhaps even the entire model?

Update

After reviewing the model I found that the failure is caused by a VAV air system that does not have any zones attached.

I added a terminal and attached the two zones in the model that did not have ideal air loads turned on (zones 8 and 9) and the model did simulate. You could alternatively remove the system (and supporting plant) entirely.

There are still some warnings that you might want to heed. Particularly the warning about no thermostats in the zones.

Dear Kyle, Dear Kyle, Thank you so much for your help. It looks like it will run with Zones 8&9 turned off and Zones 1-7 turned on. I have cooling and heating thermostats specified but am confused about the Setpoint Manager. This is a node on the Supply Side with a control variable and schedule that is separate. Does this control OA or adjust thermostats based on outside temperature? There are limited choices and using temperature requires a schedule name. Can you provide an example of what the schedule name might typically be. Thank you Matt
