OpenStudio 1.14 crashing with no err file running updated osm-models [closed]

asked 2017-01-11 07:35:08 -0500

After updating several earlier osm building models (e.g. from 1.11 or later) by opening the files in OpenStudio 1.14, I tried to run simulations. However, Openstudio regularly crashes leaving no err file or usable crash diagnostics, except that several workflow errors occurred.

Anything there can be done, e.g. for extracting more diagnostic information or avoiding the crashes ?

Or should I send you an example of the crashing osm files ?

operating system=Windows10 (64 bit); OpenStudio 1.14 (32bit)

Is the OpenStudio application physically crashing or are you just seeing failed simulations without the usual eplusout.err file being generated. Might try running "Scan for Tools" the right EnergyPlus is being used. If this only happens with specific OSM and EPW files, please send to OpenStudio@nrel.gov and we can try to replicate this.

OpenStudio is not physically crashing but produces "simulation failed", however with no accessible error diagnostics whatsoever. This applies only to specific osm files, while for other updated osm models simulations are successful. Scanning for Tools on my computer displays the expected EnergyPlus 8.6. version (and an older version also installed). I will send you an example osm file for your tests.

I have just discovered that re-running the simulations after the TOOL SCAN seems to have eliminated the problem. OpenStudio 1.14 was newly installed and the first simulation runs all failed in the described way. I'll nevertheless send you a test file. Sorry for not testing more before posting the question.

No problem, I'll go ahead and close this since there are other similar issues. The need to use Scan For Tools will disappear in the 2.0 version.
