I am new to working with C++ and E+ source code, and have been looking for documentation that discusses protocols and/or best practices for editing, compiling, and testing modifications to E+ source code. I am specifically seeking information of how the E+ code is structured, what development tools are used/recommended by the community, and any other information that would be useful to someone new to working with E+ source code.

I do have experience with programming and editing code that does not require compiling, but a quick look at the E+ source code zip file suggests that I may want as many resources on hand as possible.
