Crash deleting zone from model

I'm getting an error "Zone has no surfaces" when running the simulation. Which would seem like it has a simple solution of deleting the offending zone, since it has no spaces assigned to it. Unfortunately if I try this (either in OS or in SketchUP) the program crashes. I have gotten the simulation to run successfully by assigning spaces to the buggy zone, but this does me no good because another bug associated with this zone is that I cannot include in HVAC loops as normal. Any idea what could be causing these issues or thoughts on how to delete the zone?

Is this an old OSM file or one that originated in and old version and has been forward translated? There was a bug in the past where an orphan object caused a crash when a zone was deleted, but that should have been fixed. If you are seeing it on a fresh file, then we have something else to look at. Try using the diagnostic script in the SketchUp plugin described here. If that doesn't work then send the file to OpenStudio@NREL.gov; and we can diagnose and fix it.

It is a brand new model that I started this week. I'm thinking perhaps the problem originated when I was trying to split one zone into two and instead of creating a new one I used the duplicate button in OS so that all of the properties would remain the same. I'm not having much luck with the diagnostic script, so I will send over the files for you to examine.

Thanks for sending the file @wesley. I was able to reproduce the crash with your file. I created a new issue and we will try to fix your file and send it back.

I wasn't able to reproduce this with a clean model by cloning a zone. When I clone a thermal zone that is on an air loop, the cloned zone is not on the air loop that the original zone was. I can safely delete either the clone or the original zone without any crash.

@wesley I added new information to the issue, and while we haven't fixed it yet I was able to clean up your file. I'll email it in case you can't reproduce this working around; but what I did was first deleted the air loop. Then I selected the terminal on "Thermal Zone 0" and deleted it using the black and white "x" in the edit tab. Then I deleted the zone, and rebuilt the air loop for "Thermal Zone 1" and "Thermal Zone 2".

See the issue for more details, look in your email for cleaned osm file.

Perfect, thanks, it looks like work around was effective. Hope you guys can figure out what caused the issue.
