How is it possible to make a hole on sun shading surface?

I need to make a hole on the surface of my sun shading,the problem is that I make it like the first image below but when I reopen my OS model the hole is disappeared!(and the sun shading is without the hole like second image below.)

To do that you just need to draw lines to make it multiple surfaces, see below:

Thank you so much @TaylorRoberts, in addition I would like to install a window on that hole, do you have any ideas about it?can I do that in openstudio?THANKS in advance.

@Khub, since this is only a shading surface, the window only affects light transmittance, not airflow. So you could add in an additional shading surface to represent the 'window' and then associate a transmittance schedule with it. In your case that would be a constant transmittance value of a value less than 1. (1 being completely clear).
