Is OpenStudio (or EnergyPlus) able to carry out optimization of the model?

I am going to model a solar panel integrated to HVAC systems. I don't know very much about OpenStudio or EnergyPlus. Is OpenStudio able to do optimization? what about EnergyPlus? Thank oyu

Absolutely! Here's a good primer on how optimization (and other analyses) work in OpenStudio right now. Currently you use an excel spreadsheet to specify optimization problems, but the team is currently extending PAT to handle this as well - look for that to show up late Summer as we prepare OpenStudio 2.0 for release in September.

You could use GenOpt or JEPlus+EA for optimisation purposes. There are other optimisation libraries (e.g. jMetal for Java programmers) as well but you have to do bit of coding for them.
