Automatic Receptacle Control for LEED 2009
Automatic receptacle control became a mandatory requirement of ASHRAE 90.1-2010 (section 8.4.2) and is now a prerequisite for LEED V4. My question, can this be used as an energy efficiency measure for LEED 2009 EAp2/c1? My guess is yes (obviously SSPC 90.1 thought it was worth adding to the standard) but it could be difficult to quantify. I imagine I would try to model it through an Exceptional Calculation Method by altering the schedule in the proposed model. If I were to simply use the 90.1 User's Manual schedules for office space for occupancy and plug equipment then I don't think it would show much savings. I suspect this is an EEM where it would save more in real life than it might be possible to predict with a compliance model. Unlike the default schedules we tend to use in modeling, many offices have people that leave equipment and PCs on all night long, even weekends!
