Hello, I want to test various alternatives by whole HVAC systems in PAT. Unfortunately, my measures are pretty simple and not able to remove HVAC objects so baseline need to be HVAC-empty models. How to set baseline in result as baseline plus one measure and alternative as baseline plus other measures ? Thanks

That's a good question. In a future version of PAT you will be able to set any design alternative to be the 'baseline' for reporting purposes.

I see a few options now.

  1. The clean option would be to put an HVAC system in the baseline model, then for each design alternative add a measure that removes all HVAC equipment, before running measure to add new system. We do have measures that do this along with other things, but not a dedicated measure for this. Need to think about things like if SWH loops are also removed, zone exhuast, the air loop diagram (which zones are on which loops, is that maintained).
  2. The quick ugly way would be to just have no HVAC system or ideal air loads in the baseline, and then create a design alternative that represents your baseline. You can still compare it against others my how much saver over the no-HVAC baseline run.

One question I've always had when swapping systems is if a clean system swap is enough. If the system you are putting in is radiant, do you only want to adjust thermostat setpoints for affected zones. Similar question is applicable if UFAD system and ventilation.

I assumed you would have one seed model and, that you had a different measure for each type of HVAC system. If you have to have the baseline correct in Pat results (using EDAPT) then Option 1 would work much sooner.
