How to use the newly added heat pump water heater in OpenStudio 1.10?

I was really glad to learn that the heat pump water heater component was finally included in the new version of OpenStudio, but when I tried to add it in the plant loop to where the water heater goes, it told me that "The selected component is not allowed at this location". I can't think of any other way to use it. Has anybody successfully implemented it?

There are two things involved in modeling a heat pump water heater in OpenStudio. There is the heat pump unit itself (WaterHeaterHeatPump) and the tank (WaterHeaterMixed). The heat pump unit is treated as zone equipment in OpenStudio and therefore the first step is adding the heat pump to the zone. The heat pump unit references the tank, and in OpenStudio when you drag and drop a heat pump from the OpenStudio library, the tank will come along automatically. The final step is to add the tank to a plant. Here are screenshots of the steps involved.

I have a question regarding the plant loop in this situation. What would the ultimate heat source for the heat pump be? Should it be a cooling tower to model the condenser?

What would be the differences if you are trying to model an air-source vs a water-source heatpump?
