Hello,

I am Trying to simulate a normal HVAC system with a Fan, Electric Heating Coil and a Cooling Coil. I get energy added by the heater in a timestep as below its addition capacity, as if the Heater was operating for a fraction of a Minute. Is this possible in EnergyPlus? Since the minimum Timestep is 1 minute how could this behavior take place?

Any Help will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Nadish Anand

Most of the HVAC models in EnergyPlus are formulated for what is called part load operation. This allows running at timesteps that are long relative to the cycling that might happen with real equipment. The models determine what fraction of the time the unit needs to be "on" to meet the load. Because of this it is quite normal for devices to run below their capacity. About the only time they will run at full capacity is if they cannot serve all the load or meet setpoint.
