How to make a model with cogeneration in OpenStudio?

asked 9 years ago

I am trying to make an energy model of existing building and one of the tasks is to look up at cogeneration as an alternative solution. It would be a simple model with internal combustion engine (natural gas as a fuel). I saw option for results about cogeneration in the "Report: Energy meters" and I was wondering is there a way to do such model in OpenStudio and how?

Thank you

If you know how to write this in an IDF file, you an can drop that text into an EnergyPlus measure and use it with OpenStudio. Currently OpenStudio support power generation with photovoltaic, but not through other methods.

I don't see PV in the GUI? Is it available in the API only?

I should have clarified, It wasn't added until 1.9.1. Dan added a user script in the plugin and it will render as purple grid if surface is assigned as PV, but doesn't show in OpenStudio GUI, except for in the standard report. I'm also working on a measure to put on BCL. Maybe I'll try to post quick video next weekend. I also want to post something on ZoneMixing and ZoneVentilationDesignFlowRate (which are both API only).

Thank you, I saw a possibility to write it in IDF file but I didn't know how to use it with OpenStudio.

The PV measure in 1.9.2 doesn't work, it's missing a critical object: ElectricalLoadCenter:Generators. I've opened an issue here

@Julien Marrec, I assume you are referring to the user script in the SketchUp plugin? I haven't posted the OpenStudio based PV measure on BCL. There is an old EnergyPlus PV measure.

@macumber can confirm this but I think this gets generated for you on forward translation to IDF. I confirmed that I don't have this object in my OSM file but it is in the IDF from an earlier run, in which I dod confirm PV production.
