I have been trying to teach myself how to use openstudio, but none of the videos or resources that I am finding are up to date with the latest version (V 1.0.13). The ribbon is completely different, and some of the buttons on the ribbon aren't even included in the newer version. Does anyone know of good tutorials that are up to date with V1.0.13.

V1.0.13? OpenStudio just released v 1.9.0.

1.0.13 is the legacy plugin version.

Looks like you are using the Legacy OpenStudio plugin which works with "IDF" vs. "OSM" files. The help menu opens a local html based reference guide and tutorial.

Have to go back to old YouTube video before we had a microphone to see the legacy plugin in action.

The other version you are seeing is from the new OpenStudio that works with "OSM" files. If this is what you want you can install it on top of the legacy plugin already on your machine. It will include stand alone applications as well as a SketchUp Plugin.

I have been following the OpenStudio website you linked starting with "Installation and Introductory Tutorial". They begin by going into sketchup/legacy. They begin showing you "Building Envelope" then "Space Types and Thermal Zones". Both of these parts of the tutorial are set up in with what seems to be the older version, which works with "OSM" files while my version works with "IDF". For clarification, the plug-in I have now isn't compatible with OpenStudio per-say because it uses "OSM" files. I can only use Energy Plus, which uses "IDF", with the plug-in , correct?

The original OpenStudio SketchUp plugged (now called Legacy) only works with IDF files. https://github.com/NREL/legacy-openst...

The newer more advanced OpenStudio works with OSM files, and then at run time exports to an IDF for simulation. https://www.openstudio.net

There are updates to the legacy version, but only to add in support as new versions of EnergyPlus come out. Both versions use EnergyPlus as the simulation engine, they are just different modeling approaches. Unless you have some reason not to, it is probably more useful for you to work with the newer "OSM" based version.

Ok, thanks. It seems odd in the tutorial they ask you to download legacy and teach you how to use an older version of it which cant be used with "OSM" files/more advanced OpenStudio.
