The Plant equipment control scheme error

Dear users,

maybe it's a silly question but I have a problem with district heating loop. I've already tried to find the answer and have read the topics carefully.

I have a really simple model with Baseboard HW Htg Coil. The coil is autosized. Idea is to compare the sets of exterior wall constructions and glazings and their influence on the water flow rate and end user energy consumption.

So I've made the district heating loop and the error is:

IP: IDF line~3235 Error detected in Object=PLANTEQUIPMENTOPERATIONSCHEMES, name=DISTRICT HEATING OPERATION SCHEMES * ~~~ * Field [Control Scheme 1 Schedule Name] is required but was blank

I know how to correct it manually in energyplus but I really don't know how I can make it in OS.

The setpoint manager (green icon) right after the district heating component is throwing OpenStudio into plant component setpoint operation scheme, but I don't think that makes a lot of sense for district heating. If you remove the setpoint manager after the district heating component OpenStudio will create a load based plant operation scheme that I think will work for you. To remove the setpoint manger click on the little triangle next to the green icon. Make sure you leave the manager on the plant supply outlet node.

All of that said, this still looks like an OpenStudio bug to me because component setpoint operation should still work on district heating. What version of OS is this? when I tried this setup in OS 1.8.0 and 1.9.0 it seemed to work fine for me.

Side note. OpenStudio 1.9.0 will still default an appropriate plant operation scheme for you like it always has, but you also now have complete control to override the default operation schemes using a Measure if you choose. We should get some examples posted soon about this new functionality, and it will also be made available in the UI soon.

Thank you for your reply, Kyle. It works in 1.8.0 but when I've exported it to 1.9.1 the program showed me an error. So I tried to do what you said and removed StpMgr after district heating component and the problem is still not solved. Could you be so kind to upload your file that works? Either it's a bug, or it's my principal mistake.

There were big changes behind the scenes (to enable the explicit control over op schemes) in 1.9.0 so a regression is not impossible. I was only guessing at your setup in my test file based on what I saw in the screenshot. I took one of the OpenStudio test files for district heating and reduced it so that the district was the only component on the plant, but I'm sure I didn't match your setup exactly. It would actually be easier if you could point me to your file. Would you be willing to share though drop box, gdrive, or email me at kyle.benne@nrel.gov?
