IDF Editor "Objects" portion of window missing

I feel rather silly posting this, but here it goes. This is less of a usage question and more of a "can't figure out why this bug is occurring" question. The issue is that a portion of the IDF Editor window, where you add and enter Object values, is not there. The top portion of the image shows a correctly working IDF Editor, while the bottom portion shows the IDF Editor on the machine with the issue.

image description

Pertinent information

  • Windows 7 x64 machine, up to date
  • v8.3 of IDF Editor, clean install
  • Occurred originally with all versions of E+ (8.3, 8.2, 7.2) installed on machine
  • Occurs on one machine specifically, works fine on another up to date Windows 7 x64 machine
  • User Access Control windows pops up every time IDF Editor is run
  • Can still add, delete, etc. Objects, just can't see them or click on them

Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, different window layouts, running in compatibility modes, checking permissions on the EPlus install folder.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

@jfirantello, if you are fairly certain this is a bug you should cross-post to https://github.com/NREL/EnergyPlus/is....

I have not seen this issue before but I have a couple of ideas to try to fix it.

  1. Try going to VIEW .. LAYOUT OPTIONS and try one of of the other layouts. If that works, switch back and see if the layout you like works now.

  2. The bar that allows for resizing of the top and bottom of the window may be messed up so see if you if you move your mouse over the window if a vertical arrow replaces your mouse cursor (with arrows on top and bottom). If it does, click at that point and try dragging upward.

  3. Try maximizing the file window (the sub-window), resizing it, minimizing it.

  4. If all else fails, you can reset the Windows registry entries for the IDF Editor. Close IDF Editor. Go to your start menu and search for "regedit" and then select it. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER .. Software .. VB and VBA Program Settings .. IDF Editor. On IDF Editor press the delete key and answer yes to the confirmation box. Open IDF Editor and hopefully your window will appear normal.

@JasonGlazer Thank you for your recommendations, but it seems my problem has persisted.

As a last resort, you can try uninstalling EnergyPlus and reinstalling it.

You should probably post this as a bug like @__AmirRoth__ suggested but without understanding how to reproduce the issue, it will be difficult to replicate and fix.

The issue eventually resolved itself on my work machine. Unfortunately, I did not have a chance at the time to note if anything contributed to the resolution, so I believe the proper thing is to leave this unanswered?
