Can BEopt calculate and display the dwelling overall U value, or is this something that must be calculated by hand?

BEopt does not provide an overall U-factor for the home.

(Note that any such value will be an approximation because slabs and foundation walls experience heat transfer through the ground in two dimensions, not one dimension like other components. So the U-factor of these foundation surfaces cannot simply be combined with U-factors of above-grade surfaces. That's why some building energy codes and standards use C-factors and F-factors for foundation walls and slabs, respectively.)
