beopt 3.0.1 - optimization?

asked 2026-03-12 10:04:44 -0500

Hi All.

Newbie here.

Can anyone direct me to a guide for how to perform optimization?

Specifically various roof insulation levels on the residential renovation project.

I've done modeling, utility inputs, and run various scenarios, but would like to use BEOpts optimization engine to actually find optimum insulation level.

Thanks much in advance.

Ps: Great resource here. Have been a lurker for a little while. Cheers.

To optimize you change the Analysis drop-down from Design to Optimize, and select more than one option (ctrl-click) for one or more measures on the Optimization tab e.g; R-38 and R-49 in Ceilings/Roofs. Then you run the model as usual. Note that optimization results are highly sensitive to the inputs i.e; utility rates and escalators, inflation rate, discount rate, interest rate, and measure material/labor costs. The default labor/material costs are national averages and a few years old, but you can make broad adjustments to those with the efficiency cost multipliers on the Site Screen.
