Certainly not a definitive answer ...

I'd start with:

• basic intro here
• then maybe search YouTube for "OpenStudio Tutorial" playlists - there's a bunch of them

Once warmed up:

• open OSM files of interest, under OpenStudio-Resources' simulationtests folder
• follow the logic/sequence of steps in the Ruby/Python scripts that generated OSMs of interest
• try to reproduce these steps using the OpenStudio Application

You can also try out BCL "Whole System" measures.
