geometric error updating from v. 8.5 to 9.6
Hello, I've modelled my building in Sketchtup Make 2015+plugin Legacy OpenStudio v1.0.13+Energy Plus version 8.5. I launched the free running simulation with zero warning. The dxf output was fine with every surface built correctly (no weird triangulations). Than I updated to version 9.6 and noticed some geometric warning such as:
** Warning ** CalculateZoneVolume: The Zone="ZB1.01_MECH_ROOM" is not fully enclosed. To be fully enclosed, each edge of a surface must also be an edge on one other surface.
** ~~~ ** The zone volume was calculated using the floor area times ceiling height method where the floor and ceiling are the same except for the z-coordinates.
** ~~~ ** The surface "ZB1.01_F_G_H_2_P4" has an edge that is either not an edge on another surface or is an edge on three or more surfaces:
** ~~~ ** Vertex start { -34.0205, 34.0035, 0.0000}
** ~~~ ** Vertex end { -33.4087, 32.9361, 0.0000}
** ~~~ ** The surface "ZB1.01_F_G_H_3_P4" has an edge that is either not an edge on another surface or is an edge on three or more surfaces:
** ~~~ ** Vertex start { -34.7749, 35.3193, 0.0000}
** ~~~ ** Vertex end { -34.0205, 34.0035, 0.0000}
With my setup I can't open the "geometric v9.6 idf" in sketchup so I went back to the previous version. I did that and couldn't find anything wrong. I've also checked the text file and all command lines seems correct.
Has anyone fell into the same problem? In that case how can I solve the problem?
Thank you for your answer Simone
It's challenging to pinpoint what's causing such issues without sharing the IDF. You can always import the IDF using the OpenStudio Application and try out its built-in diagnostic tools, as discussed here for instance.
