OpenStudio System Sizing Settings

asked 2015-08-11 11:10:39 -0600

I was modeling a simple air loop in OpenStudio, in the exported EnergyPlus IDF file, the "Sizing:System" object shows that the "100% Outdoor Air in Cooling" and the "100% Outdoor Air in Heating" were automatically set to "Yes". I think this would lead to significant over sizing of the cooling and heating coils. However, I did not find a place in the OpenSutdio user interface that I can specify these two fields to "No".

Clicking the dotted line separating the Supply and Demand sides of the air loop exposes the drop-down fields to change these inputs in the Edit pane:

Yes the fact that we are oversizing because of this setting has not gone unnoticed. Is it time to reconsider this default?

@Kyle Benne - Interesting question IMO; this simple control (ON/OFF) is helpful for systems that use a large % of OA (gyms, auditoriums, etc.) as well as for identifying an upper-limit on potential equipment size. That being said, having it default to ON may not be the best if that majority of users either don't require/understand this control setting.
