An improvement to sort surfaces by size before drawing in SketchUp was added in the 1.7.0 version of the OpenStudio SketchUp Plug-in. This should make the behavior more deterministic and, in the files I tested, has cut down on files that fail to render correctly. You can download the 1.7.0 OpenStudio SketchUp Plug-in from https://github.com/openstudiocoalition/openstudio-sketchup-plugin/releases/tag/v1.7.0 and then install it by going to Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Install Extension and navigating to the rbz file.
