Make sure the OpenStudio spaces are assigned to ThermalZones. You can have a one to one mapping between thermal zones and spaces or you can have multiple spaces in a single zone.
I'm a little confused, was the simulation running before the shading surfaces were added or is this the first time you attempted to run the simulation. You also mentioned that constructions are not assigned yet. That will also prevent the simulation from running. Typically you start with default constructions and then modify them as you have modify them as you have more information about your constructions.
