You may have already noticed this, but the search tool will reveal any object containing the search string. For example searching for "surface 4" will return all surface 4x and surface 4xx objects.
If there aren't too many surface 4s that show up you can select each one with the inspector open to verify its name. Also the Info Tool may be helpful.
