That is a very nice historical image you found. That looks like it came from OpenStudio 0.3 or 0.4 in 2010-11. When the OSM format first came out the plugin looked much like the legacy OpenStudio plugin. The zone loads dialog (which is also in the legacy plugin with a different looking 'plug' icon, was the predecessor to space types. Space types (and in fact the space object) didn't arrive until OpenStudio 0.5.0, at which point the zone load dialog went away, with space types being assigned using the "Space Attributes" dialog" and being editing in Model Editor (predecessor along with system outliner to the OpenStudio application). OpenStudio 0.5.0 also picked up the render modes you are used to seeing today like render by space type, thermal zone, and building story. Render by construction may have come later.
