Hi,

I am currently working on an energy model in OpenStudio. I am a complete beginner with OpenStudio, as I normally use IES VE. I created my building geometry in IES VE and imported it into OpenStudio using a GBXML file.

My current challenge is assigning the default NECB space types to my spaces. I have found the OpenStudio Standards GitHub repository, which appears to contain the NECB standards data:

https://github.com/NatLabRockies/open...

However, I cannot figure out how to install or use these standards within OpenStudio.

I tried using the "Create Typical Building from Model" measure, but the available standards seem limited to ASHRAE and DOE templates. I do not see any NECB options.

How can I use the NECB data from the GitHub repository to assign NECB default space types, schedules, lighting, occupancy, and plug loads to the spaces in my model?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there, I have been working on this exact issue! I currently have a working prototype that applies NECB 2020 space type loads, schedules, and plant curves via the create typical measure. I haven't shared my repo publicly but I'd be happy to talk to you privately about my work and how I could support you! Cheers, James

Hi James,

I found a few files that contain NECB space types and are easily accessible since they are in .OSM format. It is not perfect, but it seems to do the job. In case you're interested, the link is: https://github.com/canmet-energy/btap...

That said, I would still be interested in learning more about what you did. Is it an .OSM file that can be loaded as a library?

Glad you figured it out!

I use custom measures in a workflow I run from the command line. My measures extend the energy code standard class in openstudio-syandards. I added a class for NECB2020, and then another for the BC building code.

The resulting model files can be opened and modified with the openstudio app, but I haven't tried running my measures in the app.

Following this discussion, I’m sharing two OpenStudio measures: Create NECB Prototype Building and Create NECB Reference From OSM. They run locally with bundled dependencies, without OpenStudio Server. Tested primarily with NECB2020 on Windows using OpenStudio Application 1.11.1 / SDK 3.11.0. This is a public prerelease; supported workflows and limitations are documented. The reference measure provides a starting point requiring project review, rather than complete automatic Part 8 compliance. Feedback and reproducible examples are welcome! Cheers! https://github.com/andresgallar/NECB-...
